I am not big sports fan so when I first saw the cover of this movie years ago I was not sure it I wanted to watch it. Most sports including basketball are just not very interesting to me. What changed my mind is the list of actors in this movie. The stars are:

• Marlon Wayans
• Leon
• Duane Martin
• Bernie Mac
• Wood Harris

This movie came out in 1994, two years after I graduated from high school. I am a huge fan of Tupac so I had to check the movie out. Above the Rim is about a high school basketball player (Duane Martin) who is on his way to having a great career. His single mom is his number one fan whose main focus is getting her son into college. Unfortunately Duane Martin has a huge ego that gets in the way of his dream. His decision to try to impress a college scout backfires and he only manages to catch the attention of Tupac Shakur. Tupac is the leader of a gang who is trying to put together a team for a high stakes basketball tournemant. And he wants Kyle (Duane Martin). Birdie (Tupac) offers Kyle women, cash, and cars to be on his team.  The lure of the streets can be very tempting to a young man with no father figure and it is interesting to watch it play out on screen.

This movie has quick action on the basketball court as well as a dramatic storyline. It brought me to tears a few times. Above the Rim movie is not for kids. The storyline is of an adult nature and there is bad language.
